From the mid-1960s asbestos began to form a focus of attention for the Warren Spring Laboratory (WSL), in particular of its Air Pollution Division. The institution was asked to look into the problems of monitoring working environments in Mintech (Ministry of Technology) establishments in regard to airborne asbestos, in conjunction with the requirements of the draft Regulations on Asbestos. WSL safety officer M J Sanders also had (in his own words) "an interest in the disposal of asbestos waste representing a concern of the Mintech Safety Officers".

Correspondence topics cover many of SPAID/OEDA's functions such as advocacy, networking and administrative communications however a large proportion of the correspondence is related to cases of asbestosis and compensation claims.

- vols 5-26 (October 1981 to April 1988)
- vols 34-45 (May 1990 to January 1993)
The first meeting of the Council was held on 21 October 1944. Contents include agendas, minutes, and supporting documentation.

By 1978 Nancy Tait was, in her own words: "concerned with all aspects of the [asbestos] problem, since I provide information for the UK and European Parliaments, the DHSS and many other bodies, and have given written and oral evidence to the government Advisory Committee on asbestos. I am at present advising a Committee of the EEC ..." (to British Rail, Doncaster, 1 March 1978)
