Historique
Rosalind Maitland, 1881-1959. Born Rosalind Craig-Sellar, daughter of Alexander Craig Sellar, 1835-1890, M.P. for Partick, Glasgow. Her mother was Gertrude Smith – a cousin of Florence Nightingale. Rosalind was a pupil of piano at the Hochschule Berlin and had lessons in conducting from Dr. Bruno Walter of the Vienna Philharmonic. Rosalind married Alexander Maitland ‘KC’ in 1906 and around the time of her correspondence with Geddes, c.1912, lived at 6 Heriot Row, Edinburgh. Alec Maitland was Advocate Depute 9 Sheriff Principal of Caithness, Orkney and Shetland. Connection with Geddes is probably through her cousin Florence Sellar, 1857-1939, an art worker with Geddes.
