História biográfica
Ronald Livesey was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, in 1929. He became an apprentice at Glenfield & Kennedy Ltd, civil engineers, Kilmarnock in 1946. The following year, he moved to the firm of Babtie, Shaw & Morton in Glasgow, where he continued his apprenticeship. Livesey took evening classes at the Royal Technical College of Glasgow from 1947 until 1951, when he qualified for the Final Course Certificate of the College in Civil Engineering and the Higher National Certificate in Civil Engineering. He then became a junior assistant with Babtie, Shaw & Morton, but left in November 1951 to undertake National Service with the Royal Engineers at Guillemont Barracks, Farnborough, England. Livesey returned to Glasgow in 1953 and married Janet Gollan Taylor in 1955. He stayed at Babtie, Shaw & Morton for the remainder of his career, becoming an Associate in 1973 and Technical Director in 1991. He retired from the company in 1994. He was a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers from 1956 and the Institution of Water Engineers from 1957, and became a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1971 and a Fellow of the Institution of Water Engineers & Scientists in 1974. He was also awarded the Miller Prize and the ICE Local Associates Medal in 1956.
