The Royal College of Science and Technology Music Society was formed in 1960 as a subsection of the College's Dramatic Society with the object of providing background or accompaniment for the Dramatic Society’s shows. Support was such however that, in 1961, a separate society was formed with the aim of promoting performance and interest in all forms of music. In 1964, the society was renamed the University of Strathclyde Music Society. It was affiliated to the University of Strathclyde Students' Association.
