History

Michael O'Connor studied at Brooklyn College and New York Law School. He was a Vice President and Associate General Counsel of Chase Manhattan Bank, New York, during the bank's legal proceedings against international asbestos giant Turner & Newall plc (T&N), 1987-1997.

Recognising the value of corporate documents uncovered during the discovery process of the bank's lawsuit against T&N, O'Connor began sending copies of key content from the T&N archive to victim support groups, the media, lawyers, doctors, and historians. In March 1995 O'Connor was presented with a Freedom of Information Award for his efforts to supply British victims of asbestos-related diseases with documents supporting their compensation claims.
