Sarah Murie McLellan was born on 18 January 1884 in Glasgow, to Archibald McLellan and his wife, Annie Beaton McIntyre. Her father was a tailor, and the family appears in the 1901 Census at 67 Henderson Street in Maryhill, Glasgow. Sarah took a teacher training course at the Glasgow Church of Scotland Training College from 1903-1905 and was recognised by the Scotch Education Department as a Certificated Teacher in July 1905. She never married, and died, aged 71, in Glasgow on 13 January 1956.
