      History

      McFadzean was born in 1915 in Ayrshire, Scotland. He studied economics, politics and law at Glasgow University and business administration at the London School of Economics. He joined the Royal Dutch/Shell Group in 1952 and was managing director from 1964 until 1976. McFadzean was a visiting professor of economics at the University of Strathclyde from 1967 to 1976.
