Affectionate letter from James Young in London to Miss Mary Young at Paisley, dated 24 December 1837 with a postscript written on 25 December. Young discusses the best means for the couple to send letters to each other; the church he is attending in Regent Square and its minister, Mr MacMorland; the pleasant walks he and Mary had taken back home; Young's old friend, Mr Tennent, formerly Dr Thomson's assistant in Glasgow College, who had been shipwrecked off the coast of Ireland on his way to the East Indies; his teaching activities in London; various family members and various acquaintances at home.

Letter from James Young to his daughter Mary Ann, dated at the Victoria Hotel, Euston Square [London], 16 April 1864. Young describes his recent visit to the Crystal Palace to see Garibaldi and the enthusiastic reception given by the assembled crowd, advising that when Garibaldi comes to Edinburgh, 'you must get James to take you all to see him'.
