Includes a little correspondence with Jason Addy of Irwin Mitchell Solicitors and with Barbara Balmer (daughter of Alan Balmer, asbestos victim). Themes covered include campaigning for compensation, redevelopment of the site, creation of an asbestos memorial for Nellie Kershaw, the first asbestos death on record (d.1924).

Includes a photocopy of 'Turner & Newall: the first fifty years' (c.1970) and other earlier material.

Plaintiff's memorandum of law (1989), in Chase Manhattan Bank v. Turner & Newall plc, United States District Court, Southern District of New York. Discusses suppression of asbestos hazard prior to sale of Limpet to Chase Manhattan Bank. Includes a covering letter from Patrick S Guilfoyle of Ashcraft & Gerel, Washington, attorneys of Chase Manhattan Bank.

The lawsuit concerned 1 Chase Manhattan Plaza, New York, the first large multi-storey building with sprayed mineral fibre, mostly Limpet.

The Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) separated during 1988 to form two departments, one of which was the Department of Social Security (DSS). In 2001, the DSS was largely replaced by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), with the other responsibilities of the department assumed by the Treasury and the Ministry for Defence.

Correspondence and orders of Veterans Agency (VA) forms and leaflets, including an OEDA information requests re VA’s generally accepted medical thinking concerning asbestos-related disease, April 2006.

The Veterans Agency was an Executive Agency of the UK government's Ministry of Defence (MoD). It was amalgamated into the Service Personnel and Veterans Agency (SPVA) on 2 April 2007 under the brand Veterans-UK.

Collection of leaflets arranged in alphabetical order by reference code, beginning with BAL1 ('Tell us about it') and ending with Z3 ('Compensation recovery scheme'). Within leaflet type, in reverse chronological order.

Replicates the original arrangement. Note however that Nancy Tait's instructions for how new leaflets were to be listed was 'by title - alphabetically' and to 'give leaflet number & date, i.e. (1) Attendance allowance, (2) DS 702, (3) Nov 2002'.

SPAID/OEDA collected benefits leaflets widely. Retained here are those relating directly to the organisation's core activities, such as NI 3 ('If you have pneumoconiosis or byssinosis’) or FB 29 ('Help if someone dies’), while leaflets with no specific relationship with the charity, such as D11 ('NHS dental treatment’) or CWP1 ('Extra help with heating costs’) have been disposed of.

Correspondence (including telephone memoranda) and order forms for a considerable range of Health & Safety publications, from 'Asbestos in Housing' and 'The work of the coroner' to 'Prevention of tractors overturning'. In reverse chronological order.

Includes a copy of leaflet 'Open government : explaining the code of practice on access to government information' (1995).
