Correspondence and papers relating to a funding bid to the Upper Lee Valley Partnership’s Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) Funded Programme, which relied on support from the European Regional Development Fund. Includes copy of OEDA's component of the SRB application, also copy of a separate application to the Department of the Environment for support under the Environmental Action Fund, minutes of meetings of the Enfield & Haringey Urban Regeneration Forum 1994-1995.

It is not quite clear whether OEDA applied for £ 30,000 or for £ 22,000.

The explicit aim of the project was to 'undertake a feasability study into the best ways of communicating with and enabling victims of industrial diseases and their families to manage their problems and to obtain DSS benefits and legal compensation'. Includes

Correspondence and papers re application for a Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) Critical Assistance Fund award, to cover the shortfall arising from termination of funding through the London Borough Grants Scheme. Instead of the funds to cover the shortfall, OEDA received a grant for a two day diagnostic to review the organisation's needs. Includes a copy of the diagnostic report.

Correspondence and papers re the OEDA fundraising and remembrance event ‘Balloon race’, 31 October 1998, which netted £ 239.

Includes colour photographs and draft of the balloon launch order, which featured Nancy Tait, Alan Dalton, Bangladeshi-born British singer Gouri Choudhury, father Fred of St Barnabas Bethnal Green, London. The event took place in Mile End Park opposite St Barnabas, Bethnal Green, London.

BBC 4 Michael Frayn appeal

Correspondence and papers re the OEDA BBC 4 radio appeal, 14 March 2004. The appeal was presented by playwright and novelist Michael Frayn, whose sister had died of mesothelioma. After deduction of BBC costs, donations totalled £ 7210.

Includes

  • appeal script in various stages
  • letters accompanying donations
  • materials from an earlier application for an OEDA BBC 4 radio appeal, 1998, with a list of all BBC 4 radio appeals 1996, including name of presenter and amount raised (exceeding £ 880,000)

There were extensive records of donations including photocopies of all VISA card transactions and cheques received. These have been disposed of in line with the appraisal policy.

Collection of leaflets arranged in alphabetical order by reference code, beginning with BAL1 ('Tell us about it') and ending with Z3 ('Compensation recovery scheme'). Within leaflet type, in reverse chronological order.

Replicates the original arrangement. Note however that Nancy Tait's instructions for how new leaflets were to be listed was 'by title - alphabetically' and to 'give leaflet number & date, i.e. (1) Attendance allowance, (2) DS 702, (3) Nov 2002'.

SPAID/OEDA collected benefits leaflets widely. Retained here are those relating directly to the organisation's core activities, such as NI 3 ('If you have pneumoconiosis or byssinosis’) or FB 29 ('Help if someone dies’), while leaflets with no specific relationship with the charity, such as D11 ('NHS dental treatment’) or CWP1 ('Extra help with heating costs’) have been disposed of.
