   Patrick Geddes reports on the selection, by himself and Mr. K. Natarajan, of an assistant professor of Sociology at Bombay University. Advocates for Mr. Perwani to continue his work as Assistant Professor of Sociology in the place of Mr. K. Natarajan. Refers to the amendment by Mr. D.G. Dalvi to Mr. K. Natarajan’s motion.

Copy illustrations, plans, sections and elevations of proposed new structures or proposed revised structures to be situated in Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline. These are included as illustrations in Geddes' report to the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, 'City Development: a study of parks, gardens and culture-institutes', (1904).

Asks Charles Robert Ashbee for his opinion on a collaborative project which would unite Geddes’ ‘Cities and Town Planning’ Exhibition and Ashbee’s ‘Universities and Colleges’ Exhibition. Mentions Robert Davies Roberts, Raymond Unwin and Thomas Adam. Encloses a copy of John Lea’s letter [not extant].

Confirms receipt of diagrams sent from Charles Staniland Wake. Advises that he must delay thinking on them and the subject of graphics until December due to other commitments and will write thereafter.

Informs John Ross that Raymond Unwin and Thomas Adam showed interest in Charles Robert Ashbee’s Universities and Colleges Exhibition. Mentions the difficulty indicated by John Lea and encloses a copy of Lea’s letter. Believes a collaboration between the ‘Cities and Town Planning’ and Charles Robert Ashbee’s Exhibition would be beneficial. Indicates his own initial plan of the Exhibition could be adjusted in the event of such a collaboration. Encloses copy of letter to Ashbee [extant].

Discusses the scientific methods of Ferdinand Schiller and John Stuart Mill.

Patrick Geddes expresses his dissatisfaction with The Educational Reform Conference, which in his opinion focused too much on administrative matters related to the creation of an Association, rather than on the actual topics of education and reform. Geddes feels that the politicians appointed to lead the Association do not have enough technical or scientific knowledge to truly reform education. Mentions Richard Burdon Haldane, Robert Lowe, J.M. White, F.W.Young, F.G.Ogilvie, Sir G. Pullar, Lord Reay, Lord Elgin, Miss Stevenson, Stanley Hall, John Dewey, Rein, Liard, Lalique, Rodin, Graham Bell, Picard, Reclus, and Ernest Lavisse.

Ramsay Gardens. Setting out Geddes's negotiations with Mr and Lady Steele regarding the price of purchasing Mr Steele's annuity. Refers to his employment of Mr James Slater as an independent and impartial expert to value the property. Includes a note to advise that Geddes will incur additional costs due the architects instruction to have an engineer sink special foundations and abandoning plans to erect studios upon a portion of the ground. Includes mention of Messrs Condie & Co., and the Royal Scottish Academy.

Outlines Patrick Geddes's proposal that services of the International Association for the Advancement of Science, Arts and Education be utilised in the collation of information for the Carnegie Trust. Mentions Mr. Greard, Mr. Liard, Mr. Herbette, Mr. Duclaux, Mr. Friedel, and Professor Wilson. Dated 12th and 13th July 1901. 2 copies.

Patrick Geddes expresses his concern regarding the rise of arrears. Geddes doesn't believe it is necessary for him to attend the meeting of the Town and Gown Association, and will send a proxy. Discusses the Town and Gown accounts, Crosby Hall and the state of the accounts. Mentions Sir William Dunn, Miss Jane Hay, Sir William Collins and Lord Rosebery.

Encloses a copy of Robert Smith’s letter about the maps illustrating the geographical distribution of vegetation across the globe. Mentions encouraging Smith to start a course on Regional Survey for teachers, and would like to plan a similar course for next year’s Summer Meeting. Highlights the importance of these courses being endorsed by an educational body.

Patrick Geddes is glad Miss Matthias agreed to furnish Mr. S. Shrinivasiyengar Setlur with the information he requested on primary and secondary schools. Clarifies Mr. Setlur’s enquiry and make some suggestions. Explains Mr. Setlur wishes to use the information to make schools in Mysore more effective and advises Miss Matthias to correspond directly with Mr. Setlur. Geddes consents to indemnifying Miss Matthias on behalf of Mr. Setlur for any necessary expenses required.

1. Encloses a copy of the circular [extant] of proposed courses for Nature Studies at the Outlook Tower. Asks Mr. Gorrie to write to the Scottish Education Department in support of the courses, as this might help secure funding for the teachers who wish to enrol.

   Advertises a course on nature study by Patrick Geddes and Robert Smith. The course includes field excursions, practical lessons, indoor lectures, open air and laboratory demonstrations.

Patrick Geddes wishes to apply for leave of absence from his duties as professor of Botany for the coming summer session. His intention is to gather an international team of town-planners to help reconstruct the destroyed cities of Belgium after military attacks. Mentions A. Francis, the Head of Local and Municipal Departments for the Presidency of Madras.

These images were undertaken by James Norval, as a commission from Patrick Geddes as part of his survey of Dunfermline. The survey informed his report to the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust 'City Development: a study of parks, gardens and culture-institutes' (1904). These images appear in the final report. The images are held on fine thin paper.
