Biographical history

Lester Frank Ward, described by some as the father of American sociology, was born 18 June 1841 in Joliet and died 18 April 1913 in Washington, DC. A botanist, paleontologist, and sociologist, he served as the first president of the American Sociological Association. During his career he explored the ideas of “social telesis,” sociocracy, and social planning.
