Louisa Jessie Fletcher was a student at the Glasgow Provincial Training College from 1914 to 1916.
Georgina Paterson Mathie received an MA degree from Glasgow University in 1924, later going on to study at Jordanhill College of Education, Glasgow. She received a further two degrees from Glasgow University, her thesis submitted in 1946 was entitled, ‘A clinical study of the infantile child’.
In 1949, Georgina Paterson Mathie went on to work for Stirling County Council in the Child Guidance department. She retired from this post in 1968.
Joseph Foxworthy was born in Glasgow in 1987. He attended St Mungo’s School, and after some years working in the Civil Service, went to Glasgow University and graduated with first class honours in English in 1924. He underwent teacher training at Jordanhill College of Education the following year and took up a teaching position in St Patrick’s School, Dumbarton.
In 1928, he married Elizabeth Costello in Dublin and in the same year published a book of poems by Porpoise Press under the title of ‘Shy Traffickers’.
In 1933, Foxworthy was appointed headmaster of the newly built St. Modan’s School in St. Ninians, near Stirling. He remained in this post until 1952 when he retired. He died in 1975.
Jean Struthers (later Mrs Baird) was a student at Jordanhill College of Education from 1934 to 1935. Her sister, Janet Struthers was also a student at Jordanhill College of Education, from 1932 to 1933.
John McCutcheon was a student at Jordanhill College of Education, Glasgow from 1933 to 1934. He married Christina B. Weir, also a student at the College.
William MacDonald was born in 1921 in Ness on the island of Lewis. William enlisted in the Royal Navy during the Second World War, joining the coastal commando forces and serving on motor torpedo boats.
After the war, he entered the University of Glasgow to study maths and history. He then progressed to Jordanhill College of Education. He began his teaching career in Paisley, then moving to North Sutherland and Caithness. He was later appointed to headmaster at Lismore School in Edinburgh were he stayed until his retirement in 1981.
He was heavily involved in youth organisations, especially the Boys Brigade and Scripture Union.
Edith Jeffrey (later Mrs Horn) was a student at Jordanhill College of Education from 1952 to 1953.
Edward Miller was born in 1930 in Glasgow. He was educated at Eastbank Academy before studying at the University of Glasgow. After graduating with a MA (hons) degree in History in 1952, he studied at Jordanhill College of Education. The following year he gained a Dip Ed. at the University of Glasgow.
Following National Service, Eddie went to teach at Crookston Castle, Wishaw High Schooland then Whitehill Academy. In 1960 he was appointed director of education for the Strathclyde region. Whilst in this post, Eddie tackled issues such as staff shortages in the profession and the redirection of capital resources to schools which needed funding.
Eddie retired in 1988, the following year he was honoured with a CBE.
Avril Webster (later Mrs Braidswood) was a student at Jordanhill College of Education, Glasgow from 1951 to 1954.
David Cunningham, known as Kenneth, was a student at Jordanhill College of Education, Glasgow from 1968 to 1972. He was a member of the Student Representative Council and treasurer from 1971 to 1972.
The Dundee and District Association for the Promotion of Technical and Commercial Education was a branch of the National Association for the Promotion of Technical and Commercial Education.
