The Alumni Affairs and Development Office was created in 1994, replacing the Alumni Relations Office. In 2006, it changed its name to the Alumni and Development Office.

Until 2004, the Office came under the remit of the External Affairs and Development Office. After 2004, it came under the remit of the Office of Marketing and Communications.

The Alumni Relations Office was created in 1986 to form a common boundary between the students, staff and alumni of the University of Strathclyde, the Royal College of Science and Technology, the Royal Technical College and the Scottish College of Commerce.

In 1994, it was replaced by the Alumni Affairs and Development Office.

In 1976, the University Court approved the establishment of a university archive: "Having considered the view that the University now needed the services of an archivist to identify, record and collate relevant material." The appointment of an honorary archivist and an archival assistant was approved and, in February 1977, Emeritus Professor S. G. E. Lythe became the full-time honorary archivist. Bruce Jackson was appointed archival assistant in April 1977 and James S. McGrath archivist in 1980/1981. In 2005, the University Library officially took over responsibility for the University Archives and a combined department of Archives and Special Collections was established.

In 2005, the University Archives were formally made the responsibility of the University Library. A combined Department of Archives and Special Collections was created. At that time the Archives were housed in the McCance Building. A new archives facility was built in the Andersonian Library, Curran Building, in 2009.

The Bursar, under the direction of the Principal, was responsible to the Court for the finances of the University and for all University buildings and properties.

In 1990, the office of Bursar was replaced by the office of Director of Finance.

The remit of the Bursaries Committee was to consider and make recommendations to the Senate on matters of policy relating to studentships, scholarships, grants, bursaries, prizes or any other awards made to students. It also acted on behalf of the Senate in the establishment, review and award of these awards.

The Careers Advisory Service was established as a separate department in 1988, following the reorganisation of the Student Advisory Service. In 1994, it was renamed the Careers Service.

The Centre for Academic Practice offered advice, resources, individual consultation and courses aimed at helping undergraduate and postgraduate students develop confidence and competence in managing academic workload and enhancing learning, research and communication skills. The Centre complemented the work of academic departments. In 2005, it changed its name to the Centre for Academic Practice and Learning Enhancement.

The Centre for Digital Library Research (CDLR) at the University of Strathclyde was set up as a joint initiative by the Information Resources Directorate and the Department of Computer and Information Sciences to work across both departments and other areas of the University. Key aims were to "combine theory with practice in innovative ways" and be a centre of research excellence in the area of distributed digital information and learning environments. It was disbanded in October 2010.

The Centre for Industrial Innovation was established by the University of Strathclyde in 1969 primarily to provide a contract research and development service for industrial organisations, particularly smaller organisations which could not maintain their own facilities.

In 1999, the Centre for Lifelong Learning replaced the Continuing Education Centre. Its remit was to make University education and training accessible to adults locally, regionally and nationally before, during and after their working life.
