History
The National Centre for Training and Education in Prosthetics and Orthotics was established in 1972. When it was established, it operated in association with the Bioengineering Unit and was administered by Strathclyde University on behalf of the Scottish Home and Health Department and the Scottish Health Service. The remit of the Centre, which was initially concerned only with prosthetics, was widened to include orthotics in 1974.
