Note: Geddes and Thomson appear to have started work on this volume in 1925 and at first the book was to have been called 'Essentials of Biology', a title which was retained for the first part of the volume [see the galley proofs, GB 249 T-GED 17/9 [https://www.ica-atom.org/strathclyde/galley-proofs;isad]].
